Welcome to Croatia

The southern part of Croatia, known as the Dalmatian Coast, holds a special place in our hearts, and we can't wait to share it with you. Karla grew up spending her summers here, staying with her grandparents and enjoying time with her extensive family in her parents' homeland. Introducing Ian to this cherished second home was a pivotal moment in our relationship, as it embodies so much of what makes Karla, Karla. Ian quickly fell in love with everything about the beautiful coastline—from the breathtaking views and vibrant music to the exquisite cuisine. We are fortunate to spend every summer here and are excited to show our friends and family just how beautiful this place truly is.

Here is your guide to an incredible adventure with us. Your journey will begin with an approximately 14-hour flight from Los Angeles to Split, Croatia. Most flights include at least one layover before arriving in Split. Once you disembark and contain your excitement about finally being here, it's time to collect your luggage and find transportation. There are several options for getting from the airport to Šibenik, which is about an hour's drive away. You can pre-book a rental car from one of the multiple companies at the airport. Alternatively, you can catch a taxi or Uber from the front of the airport. For those with an adventurous spirit, consider taking the bus. Traveling by bus in Croatia is a clean and affordable option. However, keep in mind that along the Dalmatian Coast, the concept of a schedule is more of a suggestion than a certainty, and buses often run late. Once you arrive in the beautiful town of Šibenik, it's time to set down your bags and grab a drink—Cheers!

Car rental options include: Hertz, Sixt, and Europcar

Prior to the Wedding

If you plan on enjoying the Šibenik area prior to the wedding, we recommend staying in one of the beach cities around Šibenik. Primošten is where Karla’s mom, Sandra, is from. It offers ample beaches, local cuisine, and a small town atmosphere. You can find accommodations on Booking.com or AirBnB. These platforms offer a wide selection of apartments and houses that immerse you in the heart of the city, amid cobblestone streets and medieval architecture. It is a wonderful way to experience the city’s charm and fall in love with it, just as we have.

If you intend on exploring more of the Dalmatian Coast pre or post wedding, there are ferries that leave from the port of Split to explore the many popular islands of Croatia, including Hvar, Korčula, Vis, and Brač.

Tips & Tricks

Some important info for traveling to Croatia

Bring your water shoes - the beaches in Croatia are pebbles and not sand and as Ian learned the hard way…watch out for the Sea urchins!!

Foreign Transaction Fees - Make sure to look into your debit and credit cards and be aware that some cards have a foreign transaction fee for using it outside of the US, and make sure to let your bank know you will be traveling in Europe so they don’t lock your cards thinking it is fraud.

Backup Card - Ian lost his debit card once and did not have access to atm’s. So he recommends bringing a backup debit or credit card and keep it separate from your wallet in case you misplace your primary card.

Cash - Croatia uses the Euro and not the US Dollar. Cards can be used most places but remember cash is King and is always helpful when negotiating while shopping or getting a Taxi. ATM’s are abundant but if you want to plan ahead you can have your bank order Euros for you before you leave.

PASSPORTS - CECK YOUR PASSPORTS!! Not only is it very important to ensure that your passport is not expired, but your passport MUST be valid for at least 6 months longer than the day you will RETURN or else they WILL NOT let you on the plane…you know who you are.

European Visa - Visas were postponed till 2026 so NO VISAS REQUIRED FOR THIS YEAR!
